Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

City University of Hong Kong ("CityU", "we", "us") operates the InnoPortal platform ("InnoPortal", the "Platform"), which connects industry partners with CityU researchers for innovation and technology collaboration. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal data when you use the Platform, in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486) of Hong Kong.

Information we collect

  • Account & profile data — name, email, organisation, role, contact details, and (for researchers) department, research areas, biography and publications.
  • Submitted content — wishes, solutions, expressions of interest, invitations, messages and any files you upload.
  • Usage data — pages viewed, searches and interactions, collected to operate and improve the Platform.

How we use your data

  • To provide the matchmaking service — listing wishes/solutions, generating recommendations, and facilitating contact between industry partners and researchers.
  • To authenticate you (CityUHK SSO for staff; one-time magic links for industry partners) and keep your account secure.
  • To send service communications such as invitations, match updates and platform notices.
  • To analyse and improve the Platform, and to comply with legal and regulatory obligations.

Disclosure of your data

  • Researcher names, departments and listed solutions are shown publicly on the Platform. Industry partner contact details are shared with a researcher only after a confidential wish is matched or interest is mutually confirmed.
  • We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with service providers acting on our behalf, or where required by law.

Data retention & security

  • We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes above or as required by law, and apply appropriate technical and organisational safeguards to protect it.

Your rights

  • You have the right to access and correct your personal data. To exercise these rights, or for any privacy enquiry, contact the CityU Knowledge Transfer Office.
